Our lab is a member of the Department of Chemical Sciences at the Tezpur University, Tezpur, Assam, India. The research program is devoted to the field of organic synthesis (more can be found in the Research and Publication Sections). The research group is composed of students who are really passionate about the field of organic synthesis. We focus on the design and development of new synthetic methodologies for regio- and stereocontrolled synthesis of organic molecules containing privileged structures. Toward these objectives, inter- and intramolecular ring opening reactions of epoxides, aziridines and other starined organic molecules are utilized as key steps. The development of novel metal-free cyclization reactions, especially those operate via one pot, metal-free, multi-component domino sequence, represents another significant area of interest. Once a methodology is developed, it is utilized in the synthesis of a natural product or a series of natural product-like molecules. More recently we have also initiated medicinal chemistry programmes aimed at synthesizing small organic molecules to combat pathogenic microbes, especially conventional drug-resistant bacteria. Significant part of this work will be carried with collaborators. These projects in our research group serve as an excellent platform for students to receive a systematic training in synthetic organic chemistry that will thoroughly prepare and ultimately endow them for a future career in the chemical industry or in academia. In addition to research, we are deeply committed to the teaching and training of UG/PG students in organic chemistry.
